Above Chris Reji from World Resource Institution speaks enthusiastically about trees regenerating naturally on small scale farmer land, a low-cost method of helping farmers to increase soil fertility among other benefits. He notes, in particular, that the pruning of these trees can be used for firewood. This alone decreases the efforts of women spending time finding firewood. This is part of Farm Radio Trust’s Communication for Scaling up Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (C4S-FMNR) Broadcasters Training session.
In addition, as part of the training Clement Shema FRT’s programming specialist goes through the V.O.I.C.E. V-voice, O-opportunity, I– Information, C-convenient/consistency E-edutainment. He stressed to the broadcasters that their programs need to conform to these values that put farmers first.
