Position:​​ICT Officer

Location:​​FRT Head Office
Responsible to:​Director of Finance and Administration
​Director of Programmes​

Purpose of Position:​

Implementation of the ICT Strategy and Policy through management of Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure, development of innovative ICT solutions that enhance ICT for Development (ICT4D).


Responsibilities

A.​System Administration

1. Ensuring that a robust and secure Local Area Network is operational.
2. Recommending and implementing ICT4D innovations.
3. Providing solutions to business applications and hardware, including but not limited to:
• Client Call Centre
• Mobile Platforms
• Enterprise Management System (SAGE)
• Web based platforms and social media
• Network hardware (Servers, switches, routers, UPS, etc.)
• Databases
4. Monitoring connectivity to all users and clients to minimize down.
5. Implementation and administration of system security in accordance with the organization’s ICT and Security Policies.
6. Implement systematic back-up system for all business information to ensure that a sound business disaster recovery plan is operational at all times.
7. Make recommendations for systemems upgrades both hardware and software.
8. Track and keep custody of all ICT assets.

B.​End-user Support

1. Respond to end-user queries to ensure reliable support is provided to all users.
2. Orient users in various ICT areas including software use, internet and social media, and various computer hardware.

C.​Management Support and Function

1. Responsible for the operationalization of the ICT Policy.
2. Ensure the use of ICTs as a tool to gain competitive advantage through innovations and cost benefits.
3. Advise senior management team on ICT matters
4. Participate in the ICT function team
5. Support project holders in all ICT matters from project design to implementation and reporting.
6. Actively keep abreast with developments in the ICT space to ensure FRT has an edge in technology.
7. Provide periodic and ad hoc reports on the performance of ICTs as required.

D​. Requirements

• A Degree in Information Technology.
• Highly innovative and self-motivated.
• Five years working experience in ICT4D.
• Working experience in Microsoft Office Suite, SAGE Evolution, Web-based Applications and Cisco (routers and fire-walling), and mobile based.

Position:​E-Extension Agent

Responsible To: ​Director of Programmes
Location: ​FRT Call Centre Lilongwe
1. Job Summary

This position is aimed at contributing towards achievement of the FRT Vision of well-informed farmers that are food, nutrition and income secure through sound, evidence-based and scientifically proven agricultural technologies and services in all fields of agriculture. Specifically, the e-Extension agent is responsible for the provision of agricultural advice to smallholder farmers in line with government policies, science and farmer practices on all agricultural value chains as well as Irrigation, climate change and food security through the Mlimi Hotline, an agricultural call centre.
2. Key Responsibilities
• Job Responsibility # 1: Offer sound, evidence-based and scientifically proven agricultural advice to smallholder farmers in line with government policies, science and farmer practices on a specific value chain through the Mlimi Hotline.
• Job Responsibility # 2: To pick all calls that smallholder farmers make to the Mlimi Hotline related to the agricultural value chains.
• Job Responsibility # 3: Consult with the different assigned knowledge partners under specific agricultural value chains to support the analysis and provision of content at all levels to ensure technical accuracy and relevance of the content to appropriately address farmer queries during all calls.
• Job Responsibility # 4: Undertake monitoring and evaluation services through the development of weekly and monthly reports associated with the agricultural content requested for by callers; associated solutions offered; locations of callers; referral calls; farmer queries and/or frequently asked questions by callers.
• Job Responsibility # 5: Any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor from time to time.

Person Specification
Requirements
• Diploma in Agriculture Extension or any related area.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in agriculture extension services.
• Knowledge of ICT based Extension service desirable.
• Good communication skills.
